The dog who ate a carpet/la perra que comió moqueta

This month I'm bringing the case of a 5 y.o female neutered Jack Russell who presented depressed and inappetant. She had been vomiting for two days, and in her stools she passed some bits of the carpet she chewed 3 days before. Now she was also vomiting bits of carpets, and had a very fluidy diarrhoea as well

On her initial clinical examination we remark her tense abdomen, worried there is a linear foreign body and it may be anchored in her stomach. Under some mild sedation a couple of radiographies were done, showing an accumulation of gas in her small intestines, which was consistent with some foreign body within her gastrointestinal track. At this point it is advisable a surgical approach.

En su examen clínico notamos un abdomen tenso, y nos preocupaba que un cuerpo extraño linear estuviese anclado en su estómago. Bajo una sedación leve se hiciero un par de radiografías, que mostraron un acúmulo de gas en el intestino delgado, compatible con cuerpo extraño alojado en el tracto gastrointestinal. En este punto se aconsejó un tratamiento quirúrgico.

Once in operating theatre, an intestinal incision was needed to pull out the fabric rope that kept most of her small intestine plicated. Fortunately it was not hooked in her stomach. However, part of it got stuck where the small and large intestine joined, and a second incision was needed to "unstuck" it. More good news are there was no gut perforation or peritonitis, and all the organs seemed to be in good health.

Una vez en el quirófano, se extrajo una cuerda de tela a través de una incisión intestinal, que mantenía a la mayor parte del intestino plisado . Por suerte no estaba enganchado en su estómago. Sin embargo, una parte estaba estancada en la unión del intestino delgado y grueso, e hizo falta hacer una segunda incisión para extraerlo. Otra buena noticia es que no había perforación intestinal o peritonitis, y todos los órganos parecían en buen estado.

This little one had to stay hospitalized for 3 days, with an aggressive antibiotherapy, some gastroprotectant, a strong pain relief, and a bland diet.

     Esta pequeña permaneció hospitalizada durante 3 días, con una fuerte antibioterapia, gastroprotectores, analgésicos, y una dieta blanda.
