Cats are very prone to have abscess. Most of them are due to a fight, when the fans are stuck in the flesh and quickly goes out. This fan makes such little hole that it closes very soon, leaving behind several bacterias that will develope a bigger infection and a "bump" in the skin that sooner or later will break out, allowing the pus to get out.
Los gatos son muy propensos a tener abscesos. Muchos de ellos se deben a peleas, donde los colmillos penetran en la carne y salen rápidamente. Estos colmillos crean un orificio tan pequeño que se cierra pronto, dejando atrás bacterias que desarrollarán una mayor infección y un "bulto" en la piel que tarde o temprano se romperá, permitiendo al pus salir.
Sometimes, when it happens in a paw, the owner notices his pet has been limping for some days, and is getting worse.

In this case, the abscess was in the cat's face, was broken already, and some of the skin was dead both for lack of blood irrigation and for the infection itself.
Under sedation, the dead parts of skin had to be cut, like all the borders where the stitches were going to be done.
En este caso, el absceso estaba en la cara, ya abierto, y parte de la piel estaba necrosada tanto por falta de riego sanguíneo como por la infección en sí. Bajo sedación, las partes muertas de piel se tuvieron que cortar, igual que los bordes donde se iban a poner los puntos.
The pus was removed with some antiseptic that did not stop, slow down or hinder the growing of new tissue and the making of the scar (iodin or alcohol are not recommended therefore). Any wound already infected should not be totally stitched, but a drain must be left, either a little tube driving the pus out, or just a simple hole, as if a pair of stitches had been "forgotten".
Several days under antibiotics and antiinflamatory are also a must.
Se eliminó el pus con un antiséptico que no frenara o impidiera el crecimiento de tejido nuevo y la formación de la cicatriz (yodo o alcohol no se recomienda por lo tanto). Cualquier herida ya infectada no debería ser cosida en su totalidad, sino dejarse un drenaje, ya sea un tubo que conduzca el pus al exterior o simplemente un orificio, como si hubiéramos olvidado echar un par de puntos.
Varios días de antibióticos y antiinflamatorios son obligatorios.
