OTODECTES CYNOSIS

Otodectes is a mite very common in ears problems both in dogs and cats. It is very painfull, that is why cats used to scratch their infected ears a lot. If not treated, the mites spread out of the ear to the eyelids, face, neck and then, the body. If the scratching keeps on or becomes very hard there is a high risk of provoking an otohaematoma (see OTOHAEMATOMA)

Otodectes es un tipo de sarna muy común en otitis de perros y gatos. Es muy dolorosa, razón por la que los gatos se rascan tanto sus orejas. Si no se trata, se extiende a los párpados, cara, cuello y resto del cuerpo. Si se sigue rascando o lo hace con brusquedad se corre el riesgo de que acabe provocándose un otohematoma (ver OTOHEMATOMA)

The main symptom, along with the anoying sctratching, is their dirty ear despite being cleaning daily. They make more wax than usual in an attempt to control the parasites, sprinkling small dark dots arroung every time they shake their heads.

El síntoma principal, junto con el molesto rascado, es el oído sucio a
pesar de limpiarlo diariamente. El animal produce más cera de la normal en un intento de controlar a los parásitos, soltando pequeños puntitos
oscuros cada vez que agita la cabeza por todas partes.

There are lots of treatments for this infection, but owners must be very carefull with not using some neighbour's solution recommended for an ear mite problem in a dog, as most of dogs treatments for it, although very good ones, are poisonous to cats, even able to kill them. There is also the probability that, instead of or along with the mites your pet got yeast or bacteria.

Existen muchos tratamientos para esta infección, pero el dueño debe tener la precaución de no usar el remedio del vecino para la sarna de su perro, pues muchos de los tratamientos para perros, aunque son muy buenos, son también tóxicos para los gatos, incluso mortales. También está el riesgo de que, junto o en lugar de sarna, haya una infección por levaduras o por bacterias.
