Dangerous piometra/Piometra peligrosa

Mondays are normally the busiest days. At midday a new client arrived with a 10 years old golden retriever that had been that weekend in another veterinary hospital. After 2 weeks of a nonstop discharge through her vulva she was very down, on the verge of death. Her owners were advised to leave her in hospital for an emergency surgery. I agreed with them and she was left in my clinic. At lunch time my assistant and I began the risky sterilization, having a very old, very week, very lethargic, very anaemic patient (28% red blood cells), platelets very down and the white cells very high.

Los lunes son los días más ocupados. A media mañana llega una nueva clienta con una golden retriever de 10 años que había estado el fin de semana en un hospital veterinario de urgencia. Tras dos semanas sin dejar de secretar por su vulva, estaba muy abatida, a punto de morir. A sus dueños se
les aconsejó dejarla ingresada en el hospital para una operación de urgencia. Mi consejo también era operar, y permaneció en la clínica. A la hora de comer mi ayudante y yo comenzamos a rriesgada esterilización, teniendo una perra muy vieja, débil, aletargada, anémica (hematócrito del 28%), plaquetas bajas y leucocitos muy altos.

She got over the surgical process, and in two day's time she went home with painkillers, antibiotics, vitamines, healing cream and a recovery diet. Three days later she came back because of a mamary gland infection. I was told she used to have phantom pregnancies after each season and, eventually she had developed a mastitis. I decided to add clindamicine to her treatment of amoxiciline + clavulanic acid and painkillers. After a strong antibiotic treatment for a month she is herself once more, eating like a horse, forgetting her appointment to the dog's groomer, and still anoying her neighbours happily.

Superó la cirugía y volvió a casa en dos días cargada de pastillas (analgésicos, antibióticos, hierro, vitaminas, crema cicatrizante). Al tercer día volvió con mamitis en dos de las mamas. Me explicaron que solía tener embarazos psicológicos tras cada celo y, a veces, se infectaban sus mamas. Añadí clindamicina al tratamiento de amoxicilina + ácido clavulánico y analgésicos. Tras un severo tratamiento de antibióticos durante un mes vuelve a ser la perra de siempre, comiendo como una vaca, olvidando sus citas con la peluquera canina, y todavía molestando a sus vecinos felizmente.
